Skyroot Aerospace Creates History with Vikram‑1 Launch

Sriharikota, July 2026: India’s private space sector reached a historic milestone as Skyroot Aerospace successfully launched its first domestically developed orbital rocket, Vikram‑1, under Mission Agaman.

The four‑stage rocket, built entirely with lightweight carbon composites, lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre after a brief delay caused by a minor mechanical issue.

Standing 24 meters tall, Vikram‑1 can carry payloads of up to 350 kg to a 450 km Low Earth Orbit (LEO).

In a symbolic tribute, miniature statues of Dr Vikram Sarabhai, Sir C.V. Raman, and Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam were carried aboard the rocket.

Bengaluru‑based Cosmos Diamonds also contributed a unique payload — a lab‑grown “Diamond Lotus”.

This mission follows Skyroot’s earlier success with the Vikram‑S suborbital flight (Prarambh, 2022) and marks a decisive step toward commercial orbital launches.

With Vikram‑1’s success, India’s private aerospace industry has firmly established its capability to design, build, and launch orbital rockets.
