CBI Targets Odisha DG Prisons in SI Exam Scam
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has formally requested permission from the Odisha Government to interrogate Susanta Kumar Nath, IPS (1993 batch), currently serving as Director General of Prisons.
Nath was Chairman of the Odisha Police Recruitment Board (OPRB) during the controversial Sub‑Inspector recruitment exam held on October 5–6, 2025.
The scam came to light in September 2025 when 114 candidates were arrested near the Andhra Pradesh border for allegedly paying large sums to access leaked question papers.
Investigations revealed that a syndicate charged Rs 15–25 lakh per candidate, with suspected manipulation during the printing process.
Initially probed by the Odisha Crime Branch, the case was later transferred to the CBI due to interstate links.
The agency is now examining OPRB, ITI Limited (the exam‑conducting agency), and its subcontractors Silicon Techlab and Panchasoft Technologies.
CBI has sought approval under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act (2018 amendment) to question ITI officials first, followed by Nath.
Critics have raised concerns over why senior officials were not named in earlier charge sheets, bringing Nath’s role back into focus.
