India Identifies 27 Arunachal Pradesh Locations to Counter China’s Renaming Campaign

In a decisive move to assert its territorial sovereignty, India has officially identified 27 locations in Arunachal Pradesh on Survey of India maps.

This step comes in response to China’s repeated attempts to rename places in the region, which Beijing refers to as “Zangnan.”

The Ministry of Home Affairs, in coordination with the Arunachal Pradesh government, finalised the names of four mountain passes, 21 land areas, one lake, and one memorial.

Among them are historically significant sites such as Longju, where a 1959 border clash occurred, and Thag La, linked to the opening phase of the 1962 war.

The Sher‑e‑Thapa Memorial was also included, honouring the sacrifice of an Indian soldier. Other identified places include Jairampur, Ramnagar, Jaswant Garh, Shivaji Nagar, and Sambho Sarovar.

China has issued three lists of renamed places in Arunachal Pradesh since 2017, but India has consistently rejected these claims, reaffirming that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of the country.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu recently dismissed reports of Chinese incursions, emphasising the strong presence of the Indian Army in the region.

This identification not only strengthens India’s territorial stance but also enhances public awareness of official names in a strategically sensitive border state.
