Bhubaneswar: Odisha Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo on Saturday reviewed the progress of initiatives aimed at strengthening the state’s millet ecosystem during a visit to the Millet Factory at Baramunda in Bhubaneswar.
Accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, Singh Deo assessed various components of the millet value chain, including processing, value addition, packaging, and market linkage facilities at the factory.
During the visit, the Deputy Chief Minister interacted with officials and stakeholders associated with the millet sector and discussed strategies to expand millet production, strengthen processing infrastructure, enhance branding, and improve market access for millet-based products.
Highlighting the growing importance of millets in the agricultural landscape, Singh Deo stated in a post on X that the state’s initiatives are focused on transforming millets into a sustainable source of income for farmers while contributing to nutritional security across Odisha.
He acknowledged the efforts of farmers, women self-help groups, entrepreneurs, and development partners whose contributions have played a key role in advancing Odisha’s ‘Shree Anna’ movement.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Singh Deo said Odisha is actively promoting climate-resilient agriculture, improving farmers’ livelihoods, and positioning the state as a leading hub for millet cultivation and innovation in India.
The review reflects the state’s continued focus on strengthening the millet ecosystem through value-chain development, market expansion, and sustainable agricultural practices that benefit both farmers and consumers.
