Odisha Weavers Shine: President Murmu Honours Ram Meher & Prafulla Sahoo
Odisha’s rich handloom tradition received national recognition as two master weavers were honoured by President Droupadi Murmu during the 12th National Handloom Day celebrations in New Delhi.
Ram Meher of Bargarh was conferred the Sant Kabir Handloom Award 2025, the country’s highest honour for handloom artisans, while Prafulla Kumar Sahoo of Jagatsinghpur received the National Handloom Award 2025.

Both awardees were celebrated for their exceptional craftsmanship, innovation, and dedication to preserving India’s handloom heritage.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi congratulated them on X, praising their artistry and commitment to tradition.

The recognition not only honours individual excellence but also highlights Odisha’s enduring contribution to India’s cultural and textile landscape.
