Odisha Unveils Ambitious Plan for 143 Railway Overbridges and Ring Roads Across 10 Districts

The Odisha government has announced a sweeping infrastructure initiative aimed at transforming road-rail connectivity and easing traffic congestion across the state.

Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Prithviraj Harichandan revealed in the Assembly that 143 Railway Overbridges (ROBs) will be constructed to eliminate level crossings and enhance safety.

Of these, 105 ROBs—96 in the East Coast Railway zone and 9 in the South East Railway zone—have been fully approved for 100% funding and execution by Indian Railways.

Another 32 ROBs will be built under a 50:50 cost-sharing arrangement between the Railways and the State Government, while 6 ROBs will be taken up under the Setu Bandhan scheme.

In addition to the ROBs, ring road construction is progressing in several districts, including Bhubaneswar, Bolangir, Balasore, Cuttack, Ganjam, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Khurda, Kendrapara, and Keonjhar.

These projects are expected to significantly improve traffic flow, reduce travel time, and strengthen Odisha’s infrastructure backbone.

The initiative underscores the state’s commitment to modernizing its transport network, ensuring safer commutes, and supporting economic growth through improved connectivity.
