Odisha Water Resources Dept Issues Show-Cause Notice to BPPL Over Barrage Gate Mismanagement
The Odisha Water Resources Department has served a show-cause notice to Baitarani Power Projects Pvt. Ltd. (BPPL) for allegedly opening the gates of the Anandapur Barrage irregularly during peak flood periods.
Officials claim the company prioritised power generation over flood management, leading to uncontrolled flooding in downstream areas of the Baitarani river.
The department has directed BPPL to explain its gate operations and ensure the barrage is emptied before extreme flood events.
Authorities emphasised that gate operations must be carried out strictly in coordination with project officials to prevent further risks during the ongoing monsoon season.
