Subarnarekha River Surges Above Danger Mark, 45,000 Affected in Baleshwar
Baleshwar district of Odisha is facing a severe flood crisis as the Subarnarekha River has risen well above danger levels.
At Rajghat, the river touched 11.79 metres, exceeding the danger mark by 1.43 metres.
Floodwaters have inundated 20 panchayats in Bhograi block, cutting off more than 130 villages and affecting nearly 45,000 residents.
Embankments have been breached at several points, with water flowing into residential areas and over key roads.
The district administration has placed the region on high alert, deploying rescue and relief teams to the worst‑hit zones.
Residents in vulnerable areas have been urged to move to safer locations.
Heavy rainfall in Jharkhand’s upper catchment areas has triggered the surge, pushing massive volumes of water downstream.
Officials warn that if rains continue, more areas in Baliapal and Bhograi blocks could be impacted in the coming days.
