Odisha Revises Thermal Power Policy to Boost New Investments

The Odisha government has announced revisions to its thermal power policy, clarifying that the changes apply only to new generating projects.

Existing Independent Power Producers (IPPs) operating under current Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) will remain unaffected, ensuring no increase in Bulk Supply Price (BSP) or Retail Supply Tariff (RST) for consumers.

Officials emphasized that the move is aimed at attracting fresh investments and accelerating industrial growth while safeguarding public interest.

The revised framework is expected to stimulate ancillary industries, logistics, engineering services, and local supply chains.

Large-scale employment opportunities are anticipated during both construction and operational phases, benefiting MSMEs, contractors, and transporters.

The government also highlighted that increased industrial activity will strengthen the State exchequer through higher GST and statutory revenues, enabling further infrastructure and welfare initiatives.

By revising the policy, Odisha seeks to build an investor‑friendly ecosystem that enhances confidence and supports long‑term development across the energy and industrial sectors.
