BJD Slams Odisha Govt Over Mahanadi Data Secrecy
Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has accused the BJP‑led Odisha government of maintaining secrecy over crucial water availability data submitted to the Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal (MWDT).
Citizen group Mahanadi Banchao Andolan raised concerns about the accuracy of the data and sought a meeting with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
However, their request went unanswered, and activists were allegedly removed by police when they attempted to meet him at his residence.
BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty criticised the government for detaining activists instead of engaging in dialogue, alleging that the administration is deliberately hiding information.
The party further accused the BJP government of adopting delaying tactics and lacking a clear approach to resolving the long‑standing Mahanadi water dispute.
The controversy underscores growing demands for transparency and accountability in managing Odisha’s most critical river basin.
