Baripada SI Arrested for Cheating Woman Under Pretext of Marriage

Baripada: A Sub‑Inspector of Baripada Town Police Station, Prabhat Kumar Nayak, has been arrested following allegations of cheating a woman from Puri under the pretext of marriage.

According to the complaint, Nayak befriended the woman on Facebook and promised to marry her.

Over time, he allegedly maintained a physical relationship but later subjected her to mental and physical harassment when she pressed for marriage.

The victim further accused him of extorting money and threatening her with his service pistol.

Police registered Case No. 542 on August 22, 2026, and initiated an investigation. SDPO Sadar Baripada, Prabhat Kumar Mallick, confirmed that strict action will be taken against the accused officer.

The incident has sparked concern over women’s safety and accountability within the police force in Odisha.
