Odisha Panchayat & Municipal Elections Scheduled for January–February 2027
The State Election Commission (SEC) has announced that Odisha will conduct Panchayat and Municipal elections in January–February 2027.
State Election Commissioner Madhusudan Padhi confirmed the timeline during a preparatory meeting, noting that the current term of local bodies will conclude by then.
To ensure accuracy in voter lists, a door-to-door survey is underway and expected to be completed by March 2026.
This exercise, independent of the Summary Revision (SIR) process, may face slight delays due to census activities but remains a priority for the Commission.
The SEC is also considering restructuring polling booths to maximise voter convenience, ensuring that booths are located closer to residents.
Discussions during the meeting focused on manpower, security arrangements, and coordination with district administrations to guarantee free and fair elections.
With the announcement, political parties are expected to intensify their groundwork, while the Commission continues to emphasise transparency, voter inclusion, and smooth electoral logistics.
