Odisha Leopard Dies After Hours of Struggle in Wired Net

Balasore (Odisha): A 10‑year‑old leopard was found dead after getting trapped in a wired net inside Kathagochi Reserve Forest under Nilgiri Forest Range.

Forest officials suspect the animal was caught on Monday night, with its carcass discovered Tuesday morning in the Mitrapur section.

A three‑member veterinary team conducted a post‑mortem at the site, revealing that the leopard struggled for hours before succumbing.

Following examination, the carcass was buried in the forest.

Authorities are investigating how the net was placed and whether foul play was involved.

This incident highlights ongoing challenges in wildlife protection across Odisha’s forest belts, where human interference and illegal trapping continue to threaten endangered species.
