Odisha CM Orders 8‑Point Fuel Cut Plan
Bhubaneswar, May 21: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has issued a sweeping 8‑point directive aimed at curbing fuel consumption across government institutions, citing rising fuel prices triggered by instability in West Asia.
Leading by example, the CM halved his office’s vehicle fleet and urged citizens to avoid unnecessary fuel use.
The directive emphasises a virtual‑first approach for meetings, mandates electric vehicles (EVs) for all new government purchases from June 1, 2026, and requires carpooling among senior officers.
The Finance Department will issue clear guidelines on official car usage within 15 days.
Government staff are encouraged to prefer buses and trains over cars and flights for field visits, while officers may use personal EVs with reimbursement.
Plans are underway to introduce EV commuter services from residential colonies to offices.
Each institution must achieve a minimum 10% reduction in monthly fuel consumption, with strict enforcement across the administrative machinery.
Majhi also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the fuel crisis nationally, positioning Odisha as a frontrunner in sustainable governance and green mobility.
