Odisha CM Majhi Seeks Centre’s Nod on Key Mining Projects

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi met Union Coal & Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy in New Delhi to press for faster clearances and infrastructure support in the mining sector.

Highlighting Odisha’s leadership in mineral production with over 471 million tonnes of output in FY 2025–26 and revenue of Rs 46,000 crore, Majhi urged immediate approvals for auctioned mine blocks and allocation of Sasubohumali Bauxite and Thakurani Iron Ore blocks to OMC.

He also sought rapid development of rail and port infrastructure, a framework for backfilling abandoned coal mines using fly ash, and adoption of advanced technology for mineral analysis.

Minister Reddy assured a high‑level inter‑ministerial meeting to address bottlenecks and emphasised saturation‑mode implementation of welfare schemes in mining‑affected areas.

He proposed integrating Central and State schemes with DMF funds and CSR contributions for holistic development.

Odisha has prepared CM Sampada, a dedicated program to uplift mining regions, aligning with the Centre’s vision.

Senior officials from major PSUs and Odisha’s bureaucracy attended the meeting, signalling strong coordination between state and central agencies.
