Odisha Govt Acts in Ganjam Custodial Death: IPS Trainee Withdrawn

Bhubaneswar/Ganjam: The Odisha government has taken swift disciplinary action following the custodial death of 32‑year‑old Susanta Sahu at Kabisuryanagar Police Station in Ganjam district.

Trainee IPS officer Nitesh Kumar Mishra, who was in charge of the station, has been withdrawn from duty.

In addition, Sub‑Inspector Sameer Kumar Rout, Assistant Sub‑Inspector Baikuntha Jena, and Constable Suman Kumar Sahu have been suspended.

Driver Krushna Chandra Pradhan has been disengaged from Home Guard duty.

The Finance Department has directed the SP, Ganjam, to appoint a substitute officer.

To ensure impartiality in the investigation, all staff at Kabisuryanagar PS and Balichhai Outpost are being transferred to other subdivisions.

Authorities have confirmed that further criminal or departmental proceedings will be initiated based on the outcome of the ongoing probe.

The incident has sparked widespread concern over custodial practices and accountability in Odisha’s policing system.
