Odisha CEO Issues Heat Wave Advisory for Electoral Roll Revision

Bhubaneswar: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha has issued an advisory to safeguard staff and electors during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026.

In view of the severe heat wave conditions across the state, officials have been directed to avoid field activities between 12 PM and 3 PM.

According to the directive, verification and enrolment work should be carried out only during cooler hours — 6 AM to 11 AM and 4 PM to 7 PM.

The CEO emphasised that all field staff must carry water bottles, ORS packets, caps, and mobile phones while on duty.

Supervisors have been instructed to monitor for symptoms of heat stress, such as dizziness, fatigue, and dehydration, and ensure immediate medical assistance if required.

To protect electors, enrolment and facilitation centres must provide shaded waiting areas, ventilation, and seating arrangements.

The advisory comes as Odisha braces for extreme temperatures in May–July, raising health risks for both staff and citizens engaged in electoral roll revision.

The CEO urged strict compliance with the guidelines to ensure safe and smooth conduct of SIR 2026 across all districts.
