Odisha Government Launches Two Schemes for Rural Transformation

Bhubaneswar: In a major step towards achieving Vikshit Odisha 2036, the state government has unveiled two ambitious schemes — the Model Village Mission and the Mahapurusha Adarsha Grama Yojana (MAGY) — aimed at transforming rural landscapes with modern amenities and holistic development.

Under the Model Village Mission, headquarters villages of 6,733 Gram Panchayats will be saturated with essential infrastructure by 2029.

A baseline survey will identify gaps in healthcare, education, energy, and community facilities, with monitoring by state and district task forces.

The initiative envisions villages as self‑sustaining and self‑governing prosperity engines.

The MAGY scheme focuses on developing native Gram Panchayats of eminent Odia personalities.

Between 2026–27 and 2028–29, 100–150 Gram Panchayats will be covered, beginning with 15 linked to 16 personalities across 12 districts.

Development priorities include roads, piped water, healthcare, anganwadi centres, playgrounds, digital connectivity, solar energy, memorial parks, and restoration of ancestral houses.

Skill development, digital literacy, and livelihood generation will also be emphasised.

Both schemes will be implemented through the convergence of central and state programmes, with monitoring committees at multiple levels.

Together, they aim to preserve Odisha’s cultural legacy while driving inclusive and sustainable rural growth.
