Odisha Accelerates Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 with Major Milestones

Odisha has made significant strides in its Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0, aimed at ensuring safe and sustainable drinking water for every rural household.

Out of 207 mega projects, 42 have been completed, while 44 more are partially operational with intake structures and treatment plants ready.

Smaller drinking water projects are also nearing completion, with 18,737 of 19,086 finished and the remainder targeted by October 2026.

Solar-powered initiatives are advancing steadily, with 6,637 of 8,863 completed and the rest scheduled by November 2026.

Under the Har Ghar Jal initiative, drinking water connections have reached 16,724 villages, with 12,484 certified, and full coverage expected by October 2026.

On sanitation, Odisha has declared over 96% of villages as ODF Plus Model villages, shifting focus to scientific solid and liquid waste management for long-term sustainability.

The state is also strengthening governance with a robust Operation & Maintenance policy, citizen-led water quality monitoring, and rollout of the Sujalam Bharat digital platform.

Over 94,000 village IDs have been created, with geo-tagging and monitoring systems to be completed by December 2026.

Officials emphasised capacity building, HR planning, financial sustainability, and innovative practices to ensure lasting impact.

Odisha reaffirmed its commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable drinking water alongside high sanitation standards.
