ECoR Launches Rath Yatra Specials for Pilgrims

The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has announced a comprehensive plan to manage the massive influx of pilgrims during the annual Rath Yatra in Puri.

Special trains will connect Puri with destinations across Odisha, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra, with services adjusted dynamically based on demand.

To accommodate devotees, Puri station has been equipped with facilities for nearly 30,000 pilgrims, including shaded waiting areas, modular toilets, drinking water booths, Wi‑Fi, and medical centres with ambulances.

Free food distribution is expected to serve around 3.5 lakh pilgrims. Special arrangements such as battery vehicles and wheelchairs will assist senior citizens and Divyangjan.

Security has been tightened with 758 RPF personnel, 1,500 GRP staff, 100 volunteers, drones, CCTV cameras, and fire tenders.

A dedicated “War Room” will oversee train operations and crowd management.

Sanitation teams of 430 members will maintain cleanliness, while real‑time updates will be provided through LED video walls, GPS clocks, and speakers.

Infrastructure upgrades include expanded holding areas, improved circulation in the new terminal building, and streamlined access roads.

Railway authorities have urged passengers to avoid unsafe travel practices, remain cautious with food from strangers, and verify train schedules through official channels.
