Mayurbhanj Father Allegedly Attempts to Sell Infant for ₹30,000, Child Rescued
Baripada: In a shocking incident from Mayurbhanj district, police rescued a seven‑month‑old boy after his father allegedly attempted to sell him for Rs 30,000.
The accused, identified as Ratan Kisku of Gholamuhā village, reportedly struggled with alcohol addiction and often abused his wife and child.
According to reports, Kisku introduced himself under a false identity in Chandabila village, raising suspicion among locals.
When questioned, he admitted his intent to sell the child. Though he initially fled, police from Baripada Sadar station intervened and secured the infant’s safety.
The rescued child was handed over to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) after a medical check‑up.
The Women and Child Development Department has taken charge of follow‑up care.
This case has sparked outrage in the district, highlighting persistent social challenges such as poverty, addiction, and child trafficking.
Despite repeated government assurances since the 1980s, incidents of child sale continue to surface in Odisha, raising urgent questions about enforcement and welfare measures.
