Koraput Tragedy: Class VIII Girl Drowns in Pond, Community Mourns
Koraput district witnessed a tragic incident on Thursday when a Class VIII student, Babli Khada (13), drowned in a pond at Chikima village under Baipariguda block.
Babli, along with her two sisters and two other girls, had gone to bathe after school.
While playing in the water, all three sisters slipped into the deeper section of the pond. Villagers managed to rescue two of them, but Babli went missing.
Local youths immediately searched the pond but failed to trace her.
The Baipariguda fire services team was called in and later recovered Babli’s body.
Unfortunately, she had already succumbed.
Police conducted a post‑mortem before handing over the body to the grieving family.
The incident has cast a pall of sorrow over the village, highlighting the risks children face while bathing in unsupervised water bodies.
