Aparajita Sarangi Urges Odisha to Revive Bhubaneswar Metro Project

Bhubaneswar: Bharatiya Janata Party MP Aparajita Sarangi has urged the Odisha government to reconsider its decision to halt the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project, stressing that the city’s rapid urban growth demands modern public transport.

Sarangi highlighted that the metro would ease traffic congestion, provide safe and inclusive mobility for women, senior citizens, children, and persons with disabilities, and boost tourism by connecting major landmarks such as Lingaraj Temple, Dhauli, and ISKCON Temple.

She noted that Rs 274 crore has already been spent on the project, warning that halting now would waste public funds and escalate costs if revived later.

Metro systems, she argued, are long-term investments that generate employment, attract investment, and enhance urban sustainability.

Calling for the government to weigh public sentiment and long‑term benefits, Sarangi offered to coordinate with the central government to ensure support for the project.
