Odisha’s Digital Sanitation Model Goes Global: Mentoring Lagos in UN‑Habitat Partnership

Odisha’s Water Supply and Sewerage Board (OWSSB) has been selected to mentor the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), Nigeria, under a five‑year initiative supported by UN‑Habitat and the Global Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA).

The collaboration (2026–2030) will focus on strengthening sanitation service delivery in Lagos through Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and data‑driven governance.

Odisha will share its expertise from the DIGIT platform and its pioneering faecal sludge and septage management (FSSM) reforms.

Key components of the partnership include designing a Digital Public Infrastructure framework, developing an Integrated Data Management System (IDMS), and creating a Strategic Digital Roadmap tailored for Lagos.

Knowledge exchange will take place through thematic learning clinics, virtual mentoring, peer‑learning, and exposure visits to Odisha.

The programme is supported by a consortium of partners including Athena Infonomics, IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, eGov Foundation, and AfWASA.

This recognition positions Odisha as a global innovator in inclusive, technology‑enabled sanitation systems, showcasing how regional reforms can inspire sustainable urban solutions worldwide.
