Bay of Bengal Depression Likely to Become Very Severe Cyclone; Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha Put on Alert

Bhubaneswar: A depression over the east-central and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify rapidly into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a pre-cyclone watch for the Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha coasts.

According to the latest weather bulletin, the depression is forecast to strengthen into a deep depression before evolving into a cyclonic storm.

Meteorologists expect the system to further intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and subsequently a very severe cyclonic storm while moving northwestwards over the Bay of Bengal.

The IMD has indicated that the cyclone is likely to make landfall between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam along the Andhra Pradesh coast on October 28.

At the time of landfall, wind speeds are expected to range between 115 and 125 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 140 kmph.

Authorities in coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha have been advised to closely monitor weather updates and undertake necessary preparedness measures.

Fishermen have also been urged to avoid venturing into the sea as sea conditions are expected to become increasingly rough over the coming days.

While the projected landfall is likely to occur in Andhra Pradesh, South Odisha districts may experience the cyclone’s impact in the form of heavy rainfall, strong winds, and rough sea conditions.

Disaster management agencies and local administrations are keeping a close watch on the developing weather system.

The IMD is expected to issue further updates as the depression intensifies and its track becomes clearer.
