Koraput MP Pushes for Rail Connectivity to Gudari
Koraput MP Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka has urged Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to order a fresh survey for the proposed Gopalpur–Rayagada New Railway Line, recommending that it be realigned through Gudari.
The current plan merges the new line near Ramanaguda with the Gunupur–Therubali section, bypassing Gudari.
Ulaka’s proposal suggests an alternative route via Akhusingi–Naira–Gudari–Bankili/Durgi, which could shorten the distance by 15–17 km and reduce construction costs.
Gudari, a Notified Area Council and Block HQ in Rayagada district, serves nearly 1.5 lakh people across Rayagada and parts of Gajapati.
Despite its strategic importance, the region lacks reliable road and rail connectivity, impacting education, healthcare, markets, and employment opportunities.
Ulaka enclosed a representation from Dakshina Odisha Unnayana Parishad, highlighting the long-standing demand for rail access.
Local residents and leaders have welcomed the move, seeing it as a potential game-changer for South Odisha.
If approved, Gudari would become the 10th block in Rayagada district with rail connectivity.
Ulaka has requested the Railway Board to direct East Coast Railway to undertake a Preliminary Engineering-cum-Traffic Survey.
