Mahanadi Faces Minor Flood Risk; Other Rivers Stable
Bhubaneswar: The Water Resources Department has reported a minor flood situation in the Mahanadi River following rainfall in Chhattisgarh.
At Mundali, the water flow is expected to rise slightly from 6.5 lakh cusecs to 6.7 lakh cusecs, a surge projected to last 8–10 hours before receding.
Officials emphasised that the increase is not dangerous.
Meanwhile, other major rivers including Baitarani, Salandi, Subarnarekha, and Brahmani remain stable with no flood threat.
The department noted that no rainfall is forecast for the next three days, which should further ease conditions.
Earlier flash floods in the Bansadhara basin have subsided, with water levels returning to normal.
Authorities have advised residents in low‑lying areas to remain alert, though they assured that unless heavy rain returns, the situation will normalise soon.
