Koraput Bus Accident: One Dead, Several Injured as OSRTC Volvo Falls Into Gorge
Koraput, April 11: A tragic accident occurred at Sunki Ghat in Koraput district when an Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) Volvo bus plunged into a gorge around 3:00 AM on Saturday.
The bus, travelling from Bhawanipatna to Visakhapatnam, reportedly collided with a truck near a sharp bend, causing the driver to lose control. At least one passenger died, while 15–18 others sustained injuries.
Rescue teams, including police and fire services, rushed to the spot. The injured were immediately shifted to Potangi hospital for treatment.
Authorities confirmed that around 25 passengers were onboard at the time of the accident.
Officials have launched an investigation into the circumstances, focusing on road conditions, vehicle speed, and the collision details.
The incident highlights the dangers of hilly terrains like Sunki Ghat and underscores the need for stricter road safety measures.
