Odisha Weather Update: Low-Pressure System Likely Around Oct 12-13, Cyclone Formation Yet to Be Confirmed
Bhubaneswar: A fresh weather system may develop over the Bay of Bengal around October 12-13, raising concerns about potential rainfall across Odisha during the festive season.
However, meteorologists have clarified that there is currently no confirmation that the system will intensify into a cyclone.
According to weather forecasts, a cyclonic circulation is expected to form over the North Andaman Sea around October 12.
This circulation could subsequently develop into a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal by October 13.
Forecast models suggest the system may move towards the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coast, potentially influencing weather conditions in eastern India.
If the low-pressure area strengthens, parts of Odisha could experience rainfall during the Durga Puja period.
However, the exact track, intensity, and impact of the system remain uncertain at this stage.
Weather experts have advised the public not to assume cyclone formation, noting that several low-pressure systems over the Bay of Bengal either weaken or change direction without developing into severe storms.
A clearer picture is expected once the system actually forms and meteorological agencies begin continuous monitoring.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated the possibility of thunderstorm and lightning activity in parts of Odisha during October 6 and 7, while no major weather warnings have been issued for October 8 to 10.
The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre has also stated that the southwest monsoon withdrawal process is expected to commence from Odisha next week, signalling a seasonal transition in the region.
Residents have been advised to follow official weather bulletins and avoid relying on unverified reports regarding cyclone formation.
Meteorological assessments between October 12 and 15 are expected to provide greater clarity on the system’s future course and possible impact on Odisha.
