Kendrapara Excise Officers Suspended After Torture Allegation
Kendrapara: The Excise Commissioner has suspended Sub‑Inspector Chhayakanta Nayak and Assistant Sub‑Inspector Pradeep Mallik of Pattamundai Excise Police Station following allegations of custodial torture.
The action comes after a youth, Binod from Baradia village under Rajnagar area, accused excise personnel of assaulting him during a raid on suspected illicit liquor trade.
Binod had tipped off officials and began recording the raid when he was allegedly detained and beaten.
He later lodged a complaint against six persons, including the SI, at Rajnagar Police Station.
A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
Authorities confirmed that preliminary findings led to the suspension of both officers.
Officials stated that forensic and legal examination is ongoing, and strict action will follow if evidence substantiates the allegations.
