IMD Issues Yellow Warning for Odisha Till July 16

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds across several districts of Odisha from July 11 to 16, 2026.

The active monsoon trough, stretching from northwest India to Manipur, is driving unstable weather conditions across the state.

On July 11–12, districts including Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada are expected to witness thunderstorms with wind speeds of 30–40 kmph.

Heavy rainfall is likely in Sundargarh, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj.

The warning continues for July 13–14 in coastal and northern districts, before narrowing to Baleshwar, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj on July 15–16.

Recent rainfall reports show Balipatna in Khordha received 9 cm, Nayagarh 7 cm, and Bissem‑Cuttack in Rayagada 6 cm. Nuapada recorded the highest temperature at 35°C, while Boudhagada registered the lowest at 20°C.

Bhubaneswar is forecast to remain cloudy with chances of rain or thunderstorms, with maximum temperatures around 35°C and minimum near 27°C.

The IMD has advised farmers to exercise caution and fishermen along the Odisha coast to remain vigilant until July 15.
