Heatwave to Grip Odisha for Next 4–5 Days, IMD Issues Advisory
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that heatwave conditions will continue across Odisha for the next four to five days, with western districts expected to record maximum temperatures between 43°C and 45°C.
Dry north‑westerly winds are driving the rise in mercury.
On Sunday, 20 places across the state reported temperatures above 40°C, with six towns crossing 45°C.
Titlagarh (45.8°C), Boudh (45.6°C), Bhawanipatna (45.4°C), Sambalpur (45.3°C), Sonepur (45.2°C), and Balangir (45°C) were among the hottest. Jharsuguda (44.8°C), Hirakud, and Nuapada also recorded above 44°C.
Coastal cities such as Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Puri remained below 40°C, but high humidity from the Bay of Bengal pushed the “real feel” temperature to 45–50°C. Night temperatures have stayed elevated, offering little relief.
The IMD has advised residents to avoid outdoor activity between 11 AM and 4 PM, stay hydrated, and take precautions against heat‑related illnesses.
