Former Odisha Minister Susanta Singh Passes Away at 53

Bhubaneswar: Senior BJD leader and former Odisha minister Susanta Singh passed away on July 27, 2026, at the age of 53 while undergoing treatment for a prolonged illness in Bhubaneswar.

Singh, a three‑time MLA from Bhatli constituency in Bargarh district, served in the Naveen Patnaik cabinet holding key portfolios including Labour & Employees’ State Insurance and Rural Development.

Despite losing the 2024 Assembly election to BJP’s Irasis Acharya, Singh remained an influential figure in Western Odisha politics and within the BJD.

His death has left a significant void in the party and the region’s political landscape.

Political leaders across party lines have expressed grief and condolences.

His final rites will be performed in his native village, Bhatli.
