Odisha Blocks Andhra’s Solar Distribution Attempt in Disputed Kotia Village
Koraput: Tensions resurfaced in the long-disputed Kotia border region after Odisha authorities reportedly prevented officials from Andhra Pradesh from distributing solar equipment in Upar Sembi village under the Kotia gram panchayat.
According to reports, a team from Andhra Pradesh arrived in the village with a vehicle carrying solar kits intended for local households.
The initiative was allegedly aimed at distributing solar-powered equipment to residents as part of a welfare outreach programme.
Upon receiving information about the activity, officials from the Odisha administration, including revenue authorities and local police, reached the spot and intervened.
Odisha officials objected to the programme, asserting that no such activity could be carried out in the disputed region without the state’s approval.
Following the intervention, the Andhra Pradesh team reportedly left the area without distributing the solar kits.
The incident once again highlights the longstanding territorial dispute between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh over several villages in the Kotia region of Koraput district.
Both states have frequently launched welfare and development initiatives in the area, claiming administrative jurisdiction and seeking to strengthen their presence among local residents.
Odisha has consistently maintained that the villages form an integral part of its territory, while Andhra Pradesh has continued various outreach programmes in the border region.
The latest episode is expected to further intensify discussions surrounding administrative control and governance in the contested area.
Local authorities have reportedly increased vigilance in the region to prevent similar incidents and maintain law and order along the interstate border.
