Floods Push Vegetable Prices Higher Across Odisha

Heavy floods have devastated vegetable crops across Odisha, leaving farmers in distress and consumers struggling with soaring prices.

Fields in Kendrapara, Bhadrak, and other districts remain waterlogged, destroying brinjal, okra, ridge gourd, cucumber, beans, and other produce.

As a result, market prices have surged: brinjal is selling at Rs 80/kg, beans at Rs 120/kg, and even common vegetables like okra and cucumber are above Rs 50/kg.

In Cuttack’s Chhatra Bazaar and Bhubaneswar markets, rates are slightly lower but still unaffordable for many households.

Farmers warn that recovery will take months, and prices may rise further during the Kartika season if fresh crops fail to stabilize.

The crisis has created a dual burden—economic hardship for cultivators and affordability challenges for consumers.
