Bhubaneswar Shaken Again: Youth Gunned Down on Bomikhal Overbridge

Bhubaneswar: Panic gripped the city on Saturday after a youth was allegedly shot dead by unidentified assailants on the Bomikhal Overbridge under the jurisdiction of Laxmisagar police station.

The incident has intensified concerns over public safety, coming just days after another firing incident in the state capital.

The deceased has been identified as Sonu Nayak, a resident of Haladipadia.

According to police, Nayak was travelling with four friends towards Rasulgarh when armed attackers intercepted him on the overbridge and opened fire.

He sustained a gunshot injury to the head and succumbed to his injuries.

Following the attack, the assailants fled the scene, prompting a massive police response. Personnel from Laxmisagar police station, along with senior officers, rushed to the spot and launched an investigation.

Authorities have detained two individuals for questioning in connection with the case, while raids are underway to trace and apprehend the accused.

Police officials are examining multiple angles, including possible personal enmity and criminal rivalry.

Senior officers, including the Commissioner of Police and Deputy Commissioner of Police, visited the crime scene to assess the situation. Special squads have been deployed as part of the investigation.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over law and order in Bhubaneswar, especially as it marks the second reported firing case in the city within two days.
