Kalinga Ghat Road Reopens After 46 Days, Restoring Lifeline Connectivity in Kandhamal

Phulbani: In a major relief for commuters, traders, and transport operators, the Kalinga Ghat Road in Odisha’s Kandhamal district has reopened for vehicular movement after remaining closed for 46 days.

Authorities have permitted the movement of all types of vehicles from today following the completion of necessary restoration and safety measures.

The reopening was announced through an order issued by the Kandhamal district administration.

The road had been closed as a precautionary measure following heavy rainfall and concerns over landslides, which posed risks to commuters using the crucial route.

After extensive repair and maintenance work, officials reviewed the condition of the road and decided to restore full traffic movement in the public interest.

The reopening is expected to significantly ease transportation challenges faced by residents, businesses, and travellers who had been affected by the prolonged closure.

Kalinga Ghat Road serves as an important communication link in the region, connecting several parts of Kandhamal and facilitating the movement of goods and passengers.

With vehicular traffic now resuming, normal travel and commercial activities are expected to gain momentum.

District authorities stated that the order permitting traffic movement will remain in force until further instructions are issued.

Travellers have been advised to drive cautiously while passing through the ghat section, particularly during adverse weather conditions.

The reopening of the road comes as a welcome development for local communities who had been grappling with travel disruptions for over a month and a half.
