Odisha CM Mohan Majhi Skips Diwali Celebrations, Appeals for Support to Cyclone Arnab Victims

Bhubaneswar: In a gesture of solidarity with people affected by the devastating floods and heavy rains linked to Cyclone Arnab, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced that he will not celebrate Diwali this year.

The Chief Minister has also urged citizens across the state to extend support to the affected communities during this difficult period.

According to the announcement, no Diwali festivities will be held at the Chief Minister’s residence.

Well-wishers, supporters, and party members have been requested not to visit the residence with flower bouquets, gifts, or greetings as part of the festival celebrations.

The decision comes amid widespread distress caused by post-cyclone flooding in several parts of southern Odisha.

Many families have faced displacement, damage to homes, and losses to agriculture and livelihoods due to the disaster.

Calling for compassion and collective responsibility, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi appealed to the people of Odisha to stand beside those affected by the calamity and contribute to relief and rehabilitation efforts in any way possible.

The move has been seen as a symbolic expression of support for disaster-hit families, emphasising the importance of community assistance and humanitarian response over personal celebration during times of crisis.
