Vigilance Nabs Two Ex‑PEOs in Puri for ₹30 Lakh Pension Scam

Odisha Vigilance has arrested two former Panchayat Executive Officers (PEOs) in Puri district for misappropriating government funds under the Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY).

According to officials, Sulamani Jani, former PEO of Gadamrugsira and Jamarsuan Gram Panchayats in Sadar Block, siphoned off Rs 15.74 lakh by retaining undisbursed pension amounts.

Similarly, Tuna Pradhan, former PEO of Sahupada Gram Panchayat in Kanas Block, diverted Rs 15.03 lakh between 2022 and 2025.

The funds, meant for elderly, disabled, and destitute beneficiaries, were allegedly misused for personal gain.

Two separate cases have been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Both accused were produced before the Special Judge, Vigilance Court, Bhubaneswar.

Officials emphasised that strict action will continue against those exploiting welfare schemes designed for vulnerable citizens.
