Urban Preparedness in Full Gear for Rath Yatra 2026
Puri is gearing up for the world‑famous Rath Yatra with a comprehensive civic plan to ensure safety, sanitation, and smooth logistics for lakhs of devotees.
At a high‑level review meeting chaired by Additional Chief Secretary Usha Padhee of the Housing & Urban Development Department, officials emphasised sanitation, public health, toilet facilities, parking, street lighting, and round‑the‑clock monitoring.
Major drains and side drains along the Grand Road (Bada Danda) have been cleaned, while pothole repairs are complete.
To tackle monsoon rains, 30 vulnerable spots have been identified and equipped with high‑capacity pump sets for dewatering.
Authorities have designated 24 parking locations, enforced measures to control stray cattle, and introduced fines for violating cleanliness norms.
Only dry food will be distributed along Grand Road, with cooked food banned to maintain hygiene and manage waste.
Information boards and signage will guide devotees to food, water, medical services, and other amenities.
Senior officials from the Housing & Urban Development Department, Puri‑Konark Development Authority, and Puri Municipal Corporation joined Commissioner Sneha Arugula in reviewing the arrangements.
The coordinated efforts underline Odisha’s commitment to balancing cultural fervour with civic responsibility during Rath Yatra 2026.
