Sundargarh Fake Job Scam: Bolangir Accused Held, Assets Seized

Sundargarh, April 18: Police have arrested Saroj Nanda of Bolangir for allegedly duping a woman of nearly Rs 14.45 lakh in a fake job scam.

According to police, Nanda created a fake Facebook profile under the name Ritesh Tripathy and promised a government job in the Commercial Taxes Department for the victim’s son. Believing the offer, the woman transferred Rs 12.45 lakh via PhonePe and paid Rs 2 lakh in cash.

When she demanded a refund, Nanda allegedly abused and threatened her. Acting on her complaint filed at Bhasma Police Station, police arrested him and seized a car, bank passbook, cheque book, and mobile phone.

Sundargarh SDPO Nirmal Kumar Mahapatra confirmed the arrest, stating that the accused has been produced in court.

This case highlights the growing menace of online fraud and fake job scams in Odisha.
