Rayagada Families Face Social Boycott Over Inter‑Caste Marriages, Demand Justice

Eight families in Padmapur village of Rayagada district have alleged social boycott after members entered into inter‑caste marriages.

According to their memorandum submitted to Additional District Magistrate Nabin Chandra Nayak, they were barred from social functions, village feasts, and family celebrations, causing mental, economic, and social distress.

Leaders of the Arya Tailik Vaishya society defended the boycott, citing traditional rules and collective decisions.

However, district officials assured immediate intervention.

Gudari Sub‑Collector Dudhal Abhishek Dillip confirmed that an investigation has begun, and both sides will be called for discussions to reach a peaceful resolution.

The families have demanded justice and protection, highlighting the urgent need for administrative action against caste‑based discrimination in rural Odisha.
