Bolangir: A tragic incident in Patnagarh subdivision has sparked outrage after a quack’s alleged medical negligence claimed the life of a 61‑year‑old villager.

According to reports, Ishwar Sahani of Rengali village was suffering from vomiting and fever when he sought treatment from local quack Kunjaban Meher.

The accused administered saline and an injection, after which Sahani collapsed. He was rushed to a nearby clinic but was declared dead.

Witnesses stated that Meher fled the scene immediately on his bike once the patient lost consciousness.

The victim’s family lodged a complaint at Larmbha Police Station, accusing him of illegal medical practice and negligence.

Locals alleged that the quack attempted to hush the matter by offering money through relatives.

Villagers criticised police inaction and demanded strict legal action. Authorities confirmed the body has been sent for post‑mortem and legal proceedings are underway, with the health department informed.

This case highlights the dangers of unlicensed medical practice and the urgent need for stronger enforcement against quackery in rural Odisha.
