Padma Awards 2026: Odisha’s Dr. Mahendra Kumar Mishra Receives Padma Shri for Literature & Education
Bhubaneswar, May 25: The grandeur of the Padma Awards 2026 ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan brought pride to Odisha as Dr Mahendra Kumar Mishra, a distinguished educationist, linguist, and folklorist, was conferred the Padma Shri for his outstanding contributions to Literature and Education.
Dr Mishra has dedicated over four decades to preserving tribal languages and integrating them into modern education systems, empowering Adivasi communities and safeguarding indigenous heritage.
His recognition underscores the importance of linguistic diversity and inclusive education in India’s cultural fabric.
President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards in the presence of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Home Minister Amit Shah.
This year, 66 individuals were honoured across fields including arts, medicine, sports, and public service.
Odisha leaders, including Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, congratulated Dr Mishra, hailing his achievement as a milestone for the state’s intellectual and cultural legacy.
Other notable awardees included Bollywood legend Dharmendra Singh Deol (Padma Vibhushan, posthumous), violinist Dr N. Rajam, banker Uday Kotak, women’s cricket captain Harmanpreet Kaur, and actor Prosenjit Chatterjee.
The Padma Awards continue to celebrate India’s diverse talents, honouring individuals whose work strengthens the nation’s cultural, educational, and social foundations.
