Odisha Shifts From Mine to Mind Economy: CM Majhi

Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi has declared a bold shift from a “Mine Economy” to a “Mind Economy,” positioning the state as a hub for knowledge‑driven industries.

Speaking at the Finance Ministers’ Conference after Semicon India 2026, Majhi emphasised joint Central–State financing for agriculture logistics, cold chains, and warehousing, alongside clean energy initiatives supported by viability gap funding and global partnerships.

Odisha showcased its semiconductor achievements, including the approval of the Third Amendment to Semiconductor Policy and plans for a world‑class Odisha Silicon Valley at Naraj, Cuttack, spanning 870 acres.

A ₹452 crore National Industry Co‑Development Hub on Integrated Power Electronics with IIT Bhubaneswar was announced, with the state contributing ₹125 crore.

This initiative aims to generate jobs for local youth and reduce brain drain.

The state received investment proposals worth ₹23,600 crore, promising over 6,000 direct jobs.

Letters of Intent were signed with leading firms, including QuadQuantum for silicon carbide wafer manufacturing.

Global delegations from Japan, Sweden, and Taiwan engaged with Odisha, alongside major tech companies such as Intel, Lam Research, and Applied Materials, reinforcing the state’s ambition to become a global technology hub.
