Odisha Seals MoU with Jirang Monastery to Elevate Buddhist Tourism
The Government of Odisha has entered into a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Guru Padmasambhava Baudh Mahavihara, Jirang, to strengthen Buddhist heritage and spiritual tourism in the state.
The agreement was signed at Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, Chief Secretary Anu Garg, His Eminence Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche, and senior officials.
Deputy CM Parida emphasised that Buddhist heritage is a vital cultural asset and a cornerstone of Odisha’s tourism strategy.
Minister Suraj highlighted the importance of conservation, research, cultural exchange, and public engagement.
Chief Secretary Garg underscored the integrated approach to heritage preservation and sustainable tourism.
The MoU outlines initiatives such as meditation retreats, monastic immersion programmes, pilgrimage activities, and international conferences to promote Buddhist scholarship.
A major focus will be the integrated development of the Ratnagiri–Udayagiri–Lalitgiri–Jirang Buddhist Circuit as a world‑class destination.
This collaboration marks a significant step in positioning Odisha as a global hub for spiritual tourism while safeguarding its rich cultural legacy.
