Odisha Pushes Rural Drinking Water Projects Toward 2027 Goal

The Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department has reviewed the progress of rural drinking water projects under the direction of Chief Secretary Anu Garg.

Out of 207 mega pipe water projects, 30 have been completed and 55 are over 90% finished, with the target of covering 32,233 villages by March 2027.

Single‑village schemes are nearly complete, with 18,411 of 19,017 projects operational. Solar‑powered schemes are also advancing, with 6,146 of 8,599 projects functional and the remainder expected by June 2026. In addition, 28,750 tube wells have been installed over the past two years to strengthen supply.

To address summer demand, 445 tankers and 6,042 kiosks have been deployed, alongside control rooms to handle complaints. Officials emphasized coordination with the Centre under Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 and urged engineers to resolve technical issues swiftly.

This reflects Odisha’s commitment to achieving universal rural drinking water access through robust planning and inter‑departmental cooperation.
