Odisha Names Phulbani Medical College After Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati

The Odisha government has officially named the newly established Government Medical College and Hospital in Phulbani after Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati.

The Health & Family Welfare Department issued the notification on July 28, 2026, fulfilling Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s earlier announcement.

Alongside the renaming, the Chief Minister sanctioned Rs 13 crore from the CMSA fund to support development and heritage protection at Swami Laxmanananda’s ashram in Jalespatta, Kandhamal.

The move is seen as both a tribute to the spiritual leader’s legacy and a step toward strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the region.

This decision underscores the state’s dual focus on cultural preservation and public health, while also highlighting Kandhamal’s growing importance in Odisha’s governance priorities.
