Odisha Monsoon Surplus: IMD Reports 4% Above Normal Rainfall
Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that Odisha has received 348.2 mm of rainfall till July 13, 2026, marking a 4% surplus compared to the seasonal average of 334.4 mm.
While the state overall shows a positive trend, rainfall distribution remains uneven. Boudh (+120%), Subarnapur (+97%), and Kandhamal (+63%) recorded heavy excess showers, boosting water availability in central districts.
In contrast, Nabarangpur (-42%), Kalahandi (-36%), Rayagada (-20%), Malkangiri (-23%), and Mayurbhanj (-22%) are facing significant deficits, raising concerns for agriculture.
Coastal districts including Cuttack (+29%), Kendrapada (+30%), and Jagatsinghpur (+23%) witnessed strong monsoon activity, highlighting the Bay of Bengal’s influence.
Experts warn that the uneven rainfall may affect crop planning, irrigation schedules, and water management strategies.
Farmers are advised to remain alert for localised heavy showers in the coming weeks.
