Odisha Government Steps In to Aid Return of Bolangir Youth’s Mortal Remains
Bhubaneswar: In a poignant case highlighting the power of social media and swift governance, the Odisha Government facilitated the return of the mortal remains of Debendra Suna, a youth from Bolangir district who passed away in Bengaluru due to anaemia.
Suna’s elderly parents, struggling with financial hardship, were unable to clear hospital dues of nearly Rs 1.5 lakh or arrange transportation of his body.
Their plight came to light when a youth named Debi Prasad posted an appeal on the platform X, tagging the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and the Health Minister.
Responding promptly, the Chief Minister’s Office, Health Department, and Labour Department coordinated efforts to settle the hospital dues through the Bolangir Red Cross and arranged transportation of the body back to Odisha.
The mortal remains reached Siletpada village at 2 am, where family members and villagers performed the last rites.
The intervention drew widespread appreciation from locals and social media users, underscoring the importance of timely humanitarian support and the role of digital platforms in mobilising aid.
